Geoscience Division

The Geoscience division consists of two subsections dedicated to advancing its mission: "to develop and sustainably manage the mineral resource, coastline, and marine environment of Kiribati and to maximize and foster broad-based growth of our economic resources". These subsections are known as the Inshore and Offshore departments. The Inshore department focuses primarily on managing and studying coastal and nearshore environments where it often involves a combination of fieldwork, and data analysis to understand and address various geological, coastal, and societal challenges. The Offshore Unit on the other hand is looking at developing and implementing sustainable strategies for the exploration and extraction of offshore minerals for income generation to Kiribati, and to encourage geological marine scientific research through comprehensive geological and geophysical surveys to assess and map offshore minerals.
